Pictured
to the right are the two brothers who were almost killed 8 years
ago when their sewer tunnel home caught fire. Both boys were severely
burned and the youngest brother lost his hearing as a result of
the fire. The oldest boy suffers from emotional and psychological
issues because of his abandonment and the abuse he received while
living underground and on the street. Although he was burned over
40% of his body and his younger brother was burned over 60% of
his body, these two boys are a testament to how time, love and
a place to call "home" can heal even the deepest wounds.
Their caregiver, Lenuta, recently recounted the progress the two
boys have made: "The youngest brother is going
to school and, as you know, he is in a special class for children
who are deaf. He is progressing in his studies, loves being around
his classmates and is a happy boy. The oldest brother recently
returned to school as well and is glad to be back with his friends
after being home for 5 weeks because of surgery for the scar tissue
on his head."
Today,
both boys continue to receive skin grafts and countless surgeries
as their bodies grow and as they continue to mature. Because of
your selfless giving and commitment to this project and to other
City of Hope projects, these two boys face a much brighter
future and now have hope and a chance at life. Thank you again
for all you are doing for these brothers and for all of the children
and families who call City of Hope "home"!
