Our new project, just now in development, is the Village of Hope. The Village of Hope will provide a family-like community allowing hundreds of children to reach their full potential as healthy, educated, and responsible members of Romanian society. The campus will consist of family-like housing for children, a multi-purpose building that will house a school, vocational training program, children's clinic, and gymnasium. A vocational training guest house will also be developed on the campus, as well as a warehouse, and areas for farming and recreation.
The first phase of development for the Village of Hope has been underway since the fall of 2002. We have purchased a 16-acre property, located about 15 miles outside of Bucharest, Romania. The property is beautiful--near a forest and a lake. There were two homes already on the property when we purchased it. We currently have some of our children living there in family settings.
As of January, 2003, utilities are beginning to be brought out onto the land, i.e. gas lines, electricity, water. The permit process is being pushed along as quickly as possible so we can begin construction in the Fall of 2003.
In this first phase will also be a multi-purpose building that will house vocational training classrooms, a woodshop area, and a medical clinic. A warehouse and a sports complex / auditorium will also be built. The picture you see was taken on our property. Some of our children were able to grow vegetables in a garden they planted. They take great pride in that!
Our first phase will include the construction of one multi-family home structure. It will be a tri-plex of sorts--three family homes will be attached yet with separate entrances and yards. Five children will be in each unit-15 per each three-home structure. These homes will provide a loving shelter for former street children and abandoned youngsters.
